Palm Email Software

The best options for palm email software.
palm pocket pc

Ready to go wireless? As the most popular option for palm tops is now the ultimate version from PalmOne, the market-leader Treo, this review looks into palm email softwares that also work on Treo. Here's a short guide through top palm email software at the moment. You can find out about: incoming & outgoing autentification, mailbox size, number of accounts, attachments supported, auto check, price, stability and of course Treo compatibility.

SnapperMail from SnapperFish

The SnapperFish have just released their 1.9 version for SnapperMail, which has as a main inconvenient that you can use only POP3 servers for incoming messages. However, they are preparing for version 2.0, which is set to solve this problem, and also allow incoming through IMAP. Anyway, for other features, SnapperMail has multiple pluses:

  • easy finger navigation
  • you can send or download almost any type of attachments (Word, Excel, all image files, HTML, vCards, Zip files etc.)
  • you can create multiple accounts and it doesn't impose a maximum mail size (of course, for devices with memory card)
  • you can set visual & sound message allert, and auto check at a minimum. 1 minute rate. The prices range from $24.95 (Lite version) to $59.95 (Enterprise).

SnapperFish is excellently supported on Treo.

Basejet

For Basejet people there are good and bad news. The good news is you can use IMAP servers for incoming email, and all kinds of attachments (text, HTML, image files, PDF and VCF). The bad news is that you have a 60K mail size limit. The good news is they allow periodic checks of incoming mail. The bad news is they don't allow you to create multiple accounts. The good news is that Treo support is really good. Unfortunately, the bad news is that they recently decided to go out of business, though still continue to provide support for their products through January 2005. Maybe not for good.

Versamail from PalmOne

With Versamail 2.0 you can opt among POP3 and IMAP mail, create 8 different accounts, send and receive various attachments (however, you may need extra-software for some), but offers only 60K mail size. You cannot set periodic mail-check. It's rather amazing that Versamail has not been reported to behave very well on Treo support.

Mail from Mark/Space

This mail client is a POP3 incoming, with low support for attachments (vCards and Memo Pads only) and a 62 K mail size limit. It does allow you to configure unlimited email accounts, but what's the use? The periodic email checking visual & sound alarm is a good thing. And Treo support is excellent. You can have it for $29.95.

Eudora from Qualcomm

The main advantage Eudora is: it's free. But... there are a lot of buts, including only POP3 mail, no attachments, low limit mail size (you can write up to 999 lines), poor Treo support, no periodical checks and users frequently report poor stability.

Agendus Mail from Iambic

Agendus Mail Version 4.02 has been released. Devices with memory cards will support any kind of attachment, unlimited mail size and multiple accounts. You have alternative for POP3/IMAP4 mail. Treo support is excellent. Regular price — $40.

Mailer from Electric Pocket

Only POP3 mail, no attachments. Prices are not available on their website at the moment.
